Construction of
Trampoline
There are two types of trampolines, the type used for recreational
purposes and the type used in competition.
Recreational trampolines used in most homes are not as sturdy as those
used in competitions at gyms. Their springs are usually not as strong.
The fabric is usually a waterproof canvas material, but is not as sturdy
as the fabric used to construct trampolines built for competitive use.
The most common shapes used for recreational purposes are circular,
octagonal or rectangular, although there are a few other shapes
available.
Competitive trampolines are rectangle shape and the frames are
constructed of a sturdy steel or galvanized pipe. The competitive
trampoline is surrounded by specially designed thick pads which are
attached securely to the frame. The springs of the trampoline are made
from galvanized steel (steel that has been covered with a layer of zinc
metal) which is instrumental in creating a good bounce. If the bouncer
falls, he
will most likely land on the ends of a trampoline. Therefore,
trampolines used in competition are fitted with padded end decks.
These types of trampolines are designed to be folded up so that they can
easily be transported to different competition sites. The size of a
competitive trampoline is generally 14 feet by 7 feet. The bed is made
of a
strong fabric, usually a non-abrasive type called Poly Propylene. The
fabric is generally woven from tough individual thin strings or webbing
and is usually UV-coated and weather resistant. The fabric bed is not
elastic in itself, as the elasticity is provided only by the springs.
The pads are generally made from a sturdy vinyl which is also weather
resistant.
